Everything you need to know about NUSTIAN!
First off, what is NUSTIAN?
NUSTIAN stands for ‘NUST United States Technology, Industry and Academic Network.’ It is an alumni organization for all students of NUST living in the US, started and operated by NUST alumni in the US to help grow their institution and its recent graduates. The purpose of NUSTIAN is to engage with and help the personal and professional growth of all NUST alumni within the US. We are a close-knit group with over 500 members in the US who are engaged in the form of an active community across 7 regional and 12 technology groups. A majority of our members are well-established professionals while some are students and recent graduates.
NUSTIAN is one of the prime forums new/aspiring professionals and students looking to get settled in US use today for coaching and mentoring purposes.
One of the missions of NUSTIAN is to create an endowment fund to arrange scholarships for talented NUST students in Pakistan as well as those pursuing graduate studies in the United States.
NUSTIAN is a US 501(c)(3) non-profit organization registered in Arizona.
How did NUSTIAN start?
NUSTIAN formally commenced in 2017. The idea behind NUSTIAN was started by a few well-established NUST alumni in North America. Later, the core team was joined by more like-minded alumni. The idea behind the conception of NUSTIAN was to have a single platform to connect with all people from NUST and build a community so that they could help current students and recent graduates at NUST in establishing their careers.
What does it mean to be registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit?
Being a registered and approved non-profit means a lot. It gives a formal structure and accountability to the organization. People who donate to the organization can deduct their donation from their taxable US income. Becoming a formal entity was a milestone for NUSTIAN and it was achieved in November 2018. Who should join NUSTIAN and why?
Every NUST alumnus in the United States can seek a NUSTIAN membership. However, NUST students and alumni outside the US are welcome to engage, contribute and connect for the benefit of the community.
What happens after joining NUSTIAN?
As soon as you join NUSTIAN, we will be adding you to our internal member-communication groups, especially a group for your local chapter. This will help you meet fellow NUSTIANs, get updates for upcoming meetup events and get introduced to everyone. We are a close-knit community of 500+ people, and it will be an honor for us to welcome another NUST alumnus. Our community is only as strong as the strength of the contribution of each individual member.
We engage often through in-person events and meetups giving our members to develop personal and professional relationships while also integrating into the local society. Our aim is to build a community where we can help each other out and add value to those seeking support.
